To repair a cavity Dr. Houman Dehdashti extracts the decayed portion of your tooth so it can be filled with another substance. This procedure is known as a filling. There are different choices for the material to be utilized as a part of the filling, the most well-known of which are composite fillings and amalgam fillings.
A composite filling is also known as a tooth colored filling, for their ability to camouflage themselves amongst the rest of your natural teeth. Due to this natural appearance, they can be used in front or highly visible teeth as well. Composite fillings provide great durability when placed in small or medium cavities, and typically require less of the tooth being removed- so more original tooth structure is left in-tact.
When can a composite filling be used for?
- Decayed tooth (i.e. cavity)
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Decreasing the gap between teeth
How it's done:
First, Dr. Houman Dehdashti will numb the area where the filling is going to be placed, and any decayed portions of the tooth will be removed. A pore-opening substance will then be applied to the pores of the teeth to help create a stronger bond, and hardened with a special light.
Once this is finished, the composite resin will be applied in thin layers to slowly form the complete filling. After it has hardened, the filling will be smoothened and polished so that it is comfortable and fits your bite.
